GWR COACH "DEAN" VACUUM BRAKE CYLINDER SET (x2) - BR (O Gauge 7mm scale)

The kit comprises of 2x GWR "Dean" vacuum brake cylinders. Each cylinder comprises of:

- 1x Dean vacuum cylinder

- 1x pair of brake actuating arms (with handbrake linkage)

- 1x pair of brake actuating arms (without handbrake linkage)

 

The cylinders are available in two types (see photo 1 showing both cylinders assembled):

- Small 18" cylinder (photos 2 and 3)

- Larger 23" cylinder (photos 4 and 5)

The smaller cylinder was used on smaller "brown" vehicles and earlier goods stock, with the larger version being used on coaches. The Dean vacuum cylinder is unusual in that the whole cylinder moves to actuate the brakes, rather than being fixed with the moving piston actuating the brakes.

 

Each cylinder requires a length of 1mm brass rod (not supplied) to connect the cylinder actuating brackets to the brake arms; 17.6mm for the large cylinder and 15.3mm for the smaller cylinder. If the handbrake linkage is used, then the rod for the arms will be 0.8mm longer. 

These are genuine photos taken with a full frame 35mm SLR and not digital representations. They will fit nicely onto a GWR wagon underframe and add in some very important and hard to create details.

Bear in mind the size of these items when looking at the detail in the photos. The vacuum cylinders are scale size and sit 14mm away from the floor. The brake actuating arm is 10mm between centres with a 2mm hole for the main brake rod.

These parts were commissioned by someone who loved the LNER underframe kits and wanted some parts to complete his GWR wagons.
